The workshop "Raising Awareness" is about an introduction to the topics of racialization and critical whiteness. The participants are brought up to date with regard to racism research. It will therefore be more about a factual, scientifically sound lecture on which we will exchange ideas and, if necessary, develop strategies together for the promotion of diversity, empowerment and intersectional anti-discrimination at the UdK Berlin. At the same time, personal reflection is extremely important in this area, and the workshop will provide a few pointers in this direction.

On the way to becoming an art university that is more sensitive to diversity and more critical of power, the Berlin University of the Arts is reflecting on its understanding of intersectional accessibility and its institutional actions. In addition to internal exchange, dialogue with professional associations, initiatives and communities is sought. The focus of the action day is on the perspectives, analyzes and experiences of those positions that experience racism, (hetero/cis) sexism and/or ableism, etc.
Creating access is a task that is as complex as it is central for artistic universities as social actors. This does not only apply to access to the institution as students, employees or scientists. In artistic practice, standards and requirements are not only highly individual, but are also subject to constant revision and criticism by the specialist discourses as well as by the practice itself. However, recognizing when and how standards have a discriminatory effect requires just as much attention and energy: While “access” involves many individual processes and moments of recognition and communicative openness, depending on the perspective, these can also have the effect of exclusion.
The central question of the action day is: How can measures to dismantle exclusive mechanisms in the sense of a comprehensive and art-immanent understanding of "access" communicate with the requirements of artistic practice and their job descriptions?

- You do not need to buy a 9€ ticket! Your semester ticket is valid for all three months (June, July, August) as a 9€ ticket.
- You can use the ticket all over Germany for public transport (all buses, trams, trains, underground and regional/local trains)
- It can’t eve used for long-distance travel (ICE/IC/EC, Flixtrain, long distance busses)
- The difference between the 9€ ticket and your semester ticket will be refunded
- How will be refunded is currently being discussed between the AStA and the VBB. We will inform you as soon as there is a fixed outcome.
