+++DEMO FOR OUR SEMESTER TICKET IN BERLIN AND BRANDENBURG+++

+++On 16.09. at 11 a.m. in front of the VBB headquarters at Ostbahnhof+++

Dear Studi,

you’ve probably already heard: your semester ticket is about to get more expensive - MUCH more expensive. According to the “very latest calculations”, the VBB has determined that the semester ticket for Berlin and Brandenburg would have to cost a whole €307.50, or over €600 per year. Simply unaffordable for many of us!

As students, we have dutifully paid for our semester ticket over the last 1.5 years - and in fact hardly used it. While others were able to cancel their season tickets, we continued to pay and helped the public transport system through the crisis - and as a thank you, the VBB and the local transport companies are demanding further increases from the almost 210,000 students from Berlin and Brandenburg - in other words,
us.

We say: enough is enough!

Since 2019, trainees have been travelling throughout Berlin and Brandenburg for €365 a year (equivalent to €182.50 per semester). We expressly support this. But it is a crying injustice that we students, who have already been hit hard by the Corona crisis anyway, should also be the hardest hit group of people here. We demand justice and equal pricing for the semester ticket and the trainee ticket. The VBB and the transport companies must move and participate again in the agreed round table talks. Recently, the VBB didn’t think it was necessary to show up for these important talks. Only together can we move something for us students. Because the approval of the semester ticket has suffered enormously in the last three semesters due to the
Corona crisis! In this situation, increases are simply not justifiable.

Specifically, we demand:

1. the return of the VBB to the round table talks.

2. no increase in the semester ticket price for at least another year in Berlin and Brandenburg. This requires the VBB and the transport companies to give in, as well as financial support from politicians and administrators in Berlin and Brandenburg.

3. in the medium term, the implementation of a uniform semester ticket in Berlin and Brandenburg for 365 € (similar to the Azubi-Ticket) per year. The ticket should cover the entire transport area of the VBB.

Come to the semester ticket demo and support us! Together we will show politicians, the VBB, transport companies and the public that we need an affordable semester ticket and that the consequences of the crisis should not be paid out of our pockets!

Be there and be loud!

We will meet on Thursday (16.09.) in front of the VBB (Stralauer Platz 29, 10243 Berlin) right next to the Berlin Ostbahnhof at 11:00 am. Representatives of the press and several politicians are also invited.Bring signs, whistles and anything else that is loud! We will symbolically put our last “nest egg” in front of the VBB!

Due to the current situation, please keep your distance from each other and wear medical masks.
